Q.What inspired you to go into the beauty industry? A.To be honest cosmetology was never something I considered myself doing growing up, or even right after high school. I sort of happened upon it a year out of high school, and have never looked back. It was the best decision I have ever made. Things came naturally to me, and the "knack" for it was there from the start, lucky me!
Q.What is one of your favorite things about doing hair? A. I LOVE the social aspect. You'll learn all too quickly that I'm a chatterbox, and what better outlet than an environment where I get to focus on one person at a time, and delve into their life with questions and conversation!? I also love the look on a client's face when they are ridiculously pleased with their hair. There is nothing else like it.
Q.Is there a tip or trick you can give us for styling hair? A. A little help on those seemingly impossible flat iron curls...a common complaint I hear is that the curls are much too tight and resemble Shirley Temple. Two things you can do: 1. turn the heat down on your flat iron (if yours has that feature). As you learn how to curl with a flat iron, you will be slow at first. The slower you pull the flat iron through your hair, the tighter the curl will be. You'll get faster though, and you can turn up the heat! 2. If your flat iron doesn't have that option, or you find it's still not doing the trick, after curling run the flat iron over it real quick to loosen the curl!
Q.Give us a current trend. A. Ahhh that lovely ombre hair color. I am absolutely in love with it, and as you can see on my blog http://www.myhairoin.com/ I do quite a bit of them! There is so much freedom and creativity involved, and I just think the color is so flattering! Also, who doesn't love being able to stretch out their hair color appointments? (I still advise hair cuts every 6-8 weeks)
