Stylist - Clinton Atwater

We haven't done a blog/stylist spotlight for awhile and we have new faces that we need to recognize. With the last run we somehow missed our beloved owner so he is first:) Here is Clint's interview...

Q. What inspired you to go into the beauty industry? A. I have always known that I am an artist-a creative person my whole life. I found my place in the Hair & Beauty industry through the suggestion of some neighbors. I was studying toward becoming an architect and exhausted myself in school. Then after looking into the hair schools in town I decided to commit and here I am 13+ years later and I love it. It is part of me and always will be. I love the multi-dimensional creative plane that hair cutting and coloring offers, it is like painting and sculpting all in one. :)

Q. What cosmetology services do you offer? A. I am a hair color and cutting specialist. I am always working on perfecting many other aspects of my cosmetology experience.

   Q. Tell me your favorite styling products and tools? A. My favorite hair products are made by KEVIN.MURPHY out of Melbourne, Australia
    I love.... ANTI.GRAVITY  / BODY.BUILDER / YOUNG.AGAIN SERUM / STAYING.ALIVE / BORN.AGAIN treatment / SESSION.HAIRSPRAY / MOTION LOTION (really I love all of his products and do use them all)
I love high quality small sized professional grade blow-dryers my current favorite is TWINTURBO 3500. but all blowdryers need
to be equipped with a concentration nozzle to properly work.
I love my InfraShine Flat (straight) Iron. and GHD professional flat irons

Q. Tell me your "must haves" for a great style? A. Must haves for styling are.. OLIVIA GARDEN FLAT BRUSH (PADDLE BRUSH) , ANTI.GRAVITY, KEVIN MURPHY CURLERS, A CURL WAND, FLAT IRON, SESSION HAIRSPRAY, MY BLOWDRYER, A GOOD COMB, GREAT MUSIC. lol

Q. What is one of your favorite things about doing hair? A. One of my favorite things about doing hair -  is being able to share with clients my love of my work. I was once told that I was born to do hair. I reflect on that sometimes and think to myself  "I agree" I love it . I love the people that I am able to work on and with.

Q. Is there a styling tip or trick you can give me? A. Flat iron curls will last longer than a curling iron curl for loose ribbon curls {the kind that are so popular right now on girls with the ombre look} because they turn a circular hair strand (  ) and flatten it into an oval (). Fact: natural curl grows in an oval shape which is why the hair curls.

Q. Give me a current trend. A. Beautiful Natural Ombre (a melt) hair color. I love its beachy beautiful nature, but i think it will loose its trend status and will become a classic look.

Q. What is one of your "specialties" or "favorite things to do....A. One of my favorite things to do is come home early and surprise my wife. Because this profession keeps us on an unpredictable schedule and usually I am wrapping up at the salon later than I plan on. Other stylists will be the ones who really get that, but I love all things hair.

It's so great that you have found your passion and are running with it. I love the art analogy that you use. I totally agree with you that styling hair is an art of it's own. Plus having that attitude of shaving your love with your clients will resonate with them and keep them coming back to your business. Keep up the awesome work! Hair Stylist
